Gynaecology
Dr Gomez provides an extensive range of gynaecological services, all delivered with the highest standard of care in an environment that's safe, secure and reassuring.
Gynaecological services range from investigating infertility, managing abnormal cervical screening test results, treating menstrual disorders (including heavy periods), incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and fibroids to surgical procedures to diagnose and treat prolapse, pelvic pain, ovarian cysts, cervical abnormalities and hysterectomy.
Dr Gomez will discuss all treatment options with you ranging from least invasive to surgery. He understands that each woman is different, and will assist you in choosing a treatment option to suit your individual needs. Please see below for more details.
Colposcopy
A colposcopy is necessary when your cervical screening test shows changes to the cells of your cervix caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus). It involves placing a smooth tube-shaped tool called a speculum into your vagina to open it, so that a microscope can be used to examine your cervix in detail. The microscope remains external to your body during the examination. A small tissue sample (biopsy) may then be taken from your cervix for testing.
It is very rare to find evidence of cervical cancer during a colposcopy. It may also be done to find out the cause of other issues such as bleeding after sex. If you have an IUD or coil it will usually not need to be removed during the procedure.
Most patients will return to work the same day after a colposcopy. If a biopsy is taken at the time of the procedure you will usually get the results within 1-2 weeks and Dr Gomez will schedule a follow up consultation to discuss the results with you.
